Lakers sign Tyr Thompson as Head Coach and General Manager

Head Coach/Co-GM signing!!!!

The Lac La Biche Lakers are pleased to announce the signing of Tyr Thompson as Head Coach and Co-General Manager!

Tyr Thompson hails from Edmonton Alberta and provides a modern coaching style that will set up the Lakers for success this coming 2024/25 season! Tyr is a player's coach that intends to advocate for our players and better them as young men both on and off the ice!

Tyr comes with a loaded hockey background including a member of the Edmonton Oilers organization playing for their affiliate ECHL club Wichita Thunder in the 2021/22 season. Tyr also spent time playing professionally for the Huntsville Havoc of the SPHL in that same season. Along with his professional experience,  Tyr played for three seasons from 2018-2021 with the University of Alabama in Huntsville which is an NCAA division 1 school where he earned his degree! Tyr played his standout junior hockey career with the Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL from 2015-2017, and finished his junior career for the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL in the 2017/2018 season before making the jump to college hockey.

Along with this, Tyr has an extensive coaching background where he has been a power skating and skills coach for numerous summers with Perfect Skate in the Edmonton area and Rocky Hockey! Furthermore, Tyr has spent a season as the Assistant Coach for the 2022/23 season with his former team, the Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL.
